Toilet roll crafts for kids – Halloween witch cats
Well, we all use it (I think) and usually those little toilet roll tubes get thrown in the recycling but have you ever thought about making something with them? There are plenty of toilet roll crafts about and I thought I’d put a little cat spin on it so let’s make some Halloween witch cats!
Toilet roll crafts are not only budget friendly but also a fantastic way to reuse items you already have around the house.

What you’ll need for your toilet roll witches
As always, in my excitement to get started, I didn’t photograph everything. If you’ve been here a while you’ll know this is a running theme but I always add them to my list, I promise!
- Glue gun (or your choice of adhesives)
- Empty tubes, toilet roll/kitchen roll etc.
- Your choice of paint colours & brushes
- Googly eyes (or I made a printable eye sheet)
Let’s make some toilet roll witch cats!
Cut up the tube
Plug your glue gun in now if you’re using one.
Take your cardboard tube and cut it as above. You want the body (which is the smaller of the two pictured) to be just over a third of the empty toilet roll tube.
Then cut the larger half across as pictured, this will form the top of the hat.
Roll up a hat!
Using the larger piece of the tube that you just cut, make a curve shape. Roll your curve into the top of what will be your cat witch hat. The flat side of the carboard is at the top of the hat and the curve is at the base.
Glue the hat cone together.
Make the base of the hat
Now we’re going to make the base of the hat, so grab another toilet roll tube and cut it in half lengthways. (You could also use any other card here to save using another roll).
Draw around a tube and then cut leaving a border around the edge to make ensure the hat extends over the witch cat’s head.
Oops I cocked up here
Glue the cone of the hat onto the base but don’t make my mistake and place the pen side face up 😹 If you’re painting the hat black it’s fine but I really struggled to cover it with the orange.
If you want to decorate the hat a little you can cut a strip of the cardboard and glue that on or get fancy and make it as ornate as you like!
Decorate your cat witches
The last step of this toilet roll craft is to decorate your little cat witches. You can use some googly eyes or if you don’t have any you can use the eye sheet (at the top of the page). Simply print and cut. Then draw the faces to finish.
Where will you put yours?
These little guys are just so cute and my kids love them. I wonder how many more we can make before the big day 🎃😹
