Painted candles for cat lovers

Painted candles for cat lovers

This DIY for painted candles is just perfect for cat lovers.

I recently went to a bit of a piss up with some friends, cleverly disguised as a craft event where we painted our own candles. It was great because not only did it get me out of the house and feeling like an actual real life person, but we got to take our freshly painted masterpieces home and feel all fancy.

  • Acrylic paints
  • Brushes (or stamps/sponges, whatever you like)
  • Candles, obvs
  • Candle holder (or blu tac)
  • Black marker (maybe*)

How do you make painted candles?

So to make your painted cat candles, first off you’re going to want to decide just how you want your cat to look before you start painting.

There are plenty of cute cat faces that you can get inspiration from online so take a look and see what kind you like first. I’d recommend having a quick practice on some spare paper before you start your masterpiece!

How to make a painted candle

Start off by painting the outline of the cat’s face, I found it easiest to do the ears first. Now we’re not going for absolute perfection here, so just do a simple two triangle and squashed circle type shape. Start with the ears first, this was a bit easier, but whatever works best for you!

Paint all the cat heads around the candle and add another coat if needed then leave to dry for around 5-10 minutes.

Now lets add a bit of detail, add random cat patterns to each tiny tiger until they’re all done then go back over any little bits that look like they may need a bit more paint.

Use the end of your paintbrush to add a dot of white paint for the eyes then once dry, do the same again with some black for the pupils. I painted the mouth and nose on this candle but in hindsight it may have been better to use a black marker*, so don’t laugh at my cats ok!
